Consumer spending and fixed investment added 3.32 points, but GDP grew 1.5%
Consumer spending and private fixed investment contributed 3.32 percentage points to second-quarter growth, while net exports, inventories and government recorded negative contributions totaling 1.82 points. The calculation explains the weak GDP headline, but it does not show that imports or inventory changes damaged the economy.

The Senate's reported grant-rule pause still has no defensible dollar value
Senate appropriators said a funding agreement through Dec. 11 would keep OMB's proposed grant rule from taking effect, but the measure had not passed and Cumulant did not locate official Senate text before publication. Public award records can measure commitments that agencies made, not applications or existing awards that the proposed rule would have changed, so a protected-dollar total would be false precision.

The EU can now fine general-purpose AI providers. We put the one-year odds of a first decision at 35%
The European Commission's power to impose fines under Article 101 began applying on 2 August 2026, although the detailed procedural regulation takes effect on 10 August. After tracing the required legal steps and correcting the closest DSA precedent to 833 days, we estimate a 35% chance of a first fine decision by 2 August 2027. [AI Office FAQ](https://ai-act-service-desk.ec.europa.eu/en/faq?faq_category_id=69) [Implementing Regulation 2026/1755](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_impl/2026/1755/oj/eng)

The CRA proposal's 85.4% asset figure cannot establish LMI farm-loan coverage
On July 31, the OCC and FDIC proposed limiting mandatory detailed loan reporting largely to banks above $10 billion. Their 85.4% asset statistic does not measure loan-data coverage, which matters because nonmetropolitan places supplied 55.0% of reported small-farm dollars in low- and moderate-income tracts in 2024.

Removing ulcer-coded claims still leaves about $4.11 more Medicare spending per hospice day
Medicare payments for services outside hospice increased by $1.536 billion from FY2020 to FY2024. After mechanically removing the approximately $696 million increase in pressure-ulcer-coded carrier claims, CMS data indicate that the remaining spending rose by about $4.11 per hospice day, although the exact figure is unavailable because CMS has not published an unrounded FY2020 denominator matched to the final-rule data.

South Korea unveiled $950 billion of chip cooperation. The public documents reveal no firm minimum
South Korea described five years of semiconductor cooperation as $950 billion of long-term purchases. But the published company releases provide headline estimates, letters of intent and a memorandum of understanding without minimum quantities, mandatory payments or cancellation terms, leaving the publicly verifiable purchase floor undisclosed.

The H-1B worker pool shrank by at least 124,553, but public data cannot say why
USCIS reported 211,600 properly submitted FY2027 registrations, 38.5% fewer than the prior year. The published counts prove that the pool contained at least 124,553 fewer prospective workers, but they cannot separate any effect of the disputed $100,000 payment policy from the wage-weighted lottery, labor demand or other forces.

For continuously taxed imports, 80% to 100% of Friday's new duty matches the old surcharge
At 12:01 a.m. Eastern on July 24, the temporary 10% Section 122 surcharge reached its stated endpoint as new Section 301 duties of up to 12.5% took effect. For an otherwise identical import taxed under both policies, 80% to 100% of the new duty numerically matches the old charge, but the available public data cannot support that range for the entire import basket.

Transit Receipts Would Cover 21% of the House Bill's Five-Year Highway Funding Gap
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy urged Congress to eliminate the Mass Transit Account and direct its fuel-tax revenue to highways. Applying that proposal to CBO's estimates for H.R. 8870 would cover $28.941 billion of a $136.078 billion highway operating gap over fiscal 2027-2031, leaving $107.137 billion unresolved.

USTR's 99.4% is a map of trade partners, not a measure of imports owing its new tariff
New Section 301 duties took effect as the temporary Section 122 surcharge ended on July 24. USTR says the targeted economies supply 99.4% of U.S. imports, but that geographic figure does not account for product exclusions, trade preferences, tariff caps or cargo already in transit, so it cannot show how much import value will actually owe the new duty.

Reuters' 9,000 Porsche figure includes 2,000 contracts that had already ended
Porsche's supervisory board supported a new restructuring initiative on July 22, 2026, but the company did not disclose its size. The public record shows that Reuters' reported 9,000 total mixes completed departures with possible future reductions, leaving the company-confirmed balance unknown and a media-based ceiling of about 6,900. HHS did not disclose how much of its $1.07 billion Medicaid deferral was new
HHS said on July 21 that it was deferring about $867.5 million for California and $199 million for Minnesota. Its public release did not identify the reporting quarters, deferral numbers or reconciliation needed to separate newly deferred expenditures from amounts represented in earlier actions, leaving both the unique total and the currently unpaid balance unknown. Canada widened its Ebola entry rule without quantifying the added risk reduction
Canada will prohibit foreign nationals who were in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the previous 21 days from entering beginning at 11:59 p.m. EDT on July 20. The available model covers measures already operating before the prohibition, while public records do not disclose how many additional travelers the new rule excludes or how much importation risk it removes.

Half of FIFA's Apparent $4 Billion Revenue Beat Is Scope, If the Figures Are Comparable
A reported $15 billion revenue total appears to exceed FIFA's original four-year budget by $4 billion. If the report and budget cover the same activities, $2 billion of that gap comes from adding the 2025 Club World Cup, but FIFA has not published the reconciliation needed to confirm the comparison.

EU ETS proposal could add 1.29 billion to 1.61 billion gross allowances through 2040
The European Commission proposed a slower decline in the EU carbon-market cap on 17 July 2026. On a fixed 2026 sector boundary, Cumulant Research calculates that the proposal could create 1.29 billion to 1.61 billion more gross allowances through 2040 than current law, although allowances issued are not the same as emissions released.

The Fed says Chinese FDI firms took a larger share of Vietnam's U.S. exports, but its published dates do not reconcile
A Federal Reserve staff analysis reports that firms classified as Chinese FDI firms increased their share of Vietnam's U.S.-bound exports from 11.2% in 2018-19 to 25.0% in 2020-23 after one rerouting screen was applied. The shift changes the apparent ownership of the export boom, but it does not measure how many export dollars those firms added or how much production moved from China.

Taylor Farms listed lettuce distribution in 27 states, but the traceability benefit cannot be measured
Federal investigators linked a five-state Cyclospora outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell by Taylor Farms de Mexico, while the supplier listed recalled product distribution in 27 states. The published record does not contain the investigation timestamps, actual recordkeeping baseline, restaurant-level removal times or serving counts needed to determine whether full Food Traceability Rule compliance would have accelerated removal by three days or reduced implicated servings by 10 percent.

Starts in five-plus-unit buildings accounted for about 97% of June's housing-starts increase
The annualized pace of privately owned U.S. housing starts rose 19.0% in June, but starts in buildings with at least five units accounted for 222,000 of the rounded 228,000-unit increase. Single-family starts edged down, and surrounding pipeline measures do not yet show a broad, durable turn. [Census and HUD](https://www.census.gov/construction/nrc/pdf/newresconst.pdf)

Kpler's three Hormuz crossings do not prove outbound oil volume fell 73%
Reuters reported that Kpler's count fell from 11 vessels on July 15 to three commodity vessels on July 16. The arithmetic shows a 73% decline in counted crossings, but changing daily totals, incomplete cargo details and differences among tracking services make an equivalent fall in outbound oil impossible to establish from the public data.

Two baselines put Los Angeles June imports 68,490 to 93,874 TEUs above trend, but do not identify why
The Port of Los Angeles recorded 530,557.5 loaded-import TEUs in June. Two trend-and-seasonality checks put that result 68,490 to 93,874 TEUs above their point estimates, but one prediction interval still contains the observation and the available aggregate data cannot assign the gap to early shipping, gateway shifts, stronger demand or model error.

At 4 p.m., Brazil's final tariff list was missing. The concentration share was unknowable.
USTR had identified July 15 as its statutory deadline for responsive action, and Reuters reported that a 25% tariff announcement was expected that day. At 4 p.m. Eastern Time, no final action or product list was visible on the official pages checked, leaving the requested supply-concentration share impossible to calculate honestly. Energy Supplied 93% of June PPI's Downward Pull
U.S. final-demand producer prices fell 0.3% in June. A public-data reconstruction estimates that energy subtracted 0.403 percentage points and supplied 92.9% of the downward pull from the two broad categories that fell, while price increases elsewhere partly offset it. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/ppi.nr0.htm https://www.bls.gov/news.release/ppi.t01.htm https://www.bls.gov/news.release/ppi.t03.htm

China's private investment slump spread beyond property in the first half of 2026
Private fixed-asset investment excluding property development fell 4.9% year over year in the first half of 2026, reversing 5.1% growth a year earlier. The decline shows that weakness extended beyond developers, but the available data cannot identify which private industries caused it.

The public record does not show how the FTC reached its $13 billion Caremark savings ceiling
The FTC says its proposed Caremark settlement could preserve or produce up to $13 billion in patient savings over ten years. The public can reproduce one multiplication, but not the baselines, enrollment, adoption or cost-offset assumptions needed to estimate how much benefit the order would actually cause.

Rotterdam's investor rule shifted buyers but did not show cheaper homes
With H.R. 6644 expected to become law on July 11 without President Donald Trump's signature if the July 10 veto deadline passed without action, its investor-purchase restriction had not yet taken effect. Rotterdam's first-year evidence shows a clear shift from investor buyers to owner-occupiers, but its adjusted price estimate ranged from a small decline to an increase, a warning that access and affordability are different outcomes. Insurers expect a weaker ACA risk pool in 2027, but their filings do not isolate its premium effect
Insurers in an early multistate sample requested a median premium increase of 14%, while disclosed medical-cost assumptions had a median of 10%. Some insurers separately attributed roughly 4 percentage points to an expected deterioration in the risk pool, but the published data cover different, partly unspecified groups and cannot divide the typical request into those components.

AstraZeneca's Wainua Missed. The Harder Question Is Whether the Molecule or the Yardstick Moved.
On 9 July 2026 AstraZeneca and Ionis said their heart drug Wainua missed its main goal in a Phase III trial, erasing about $27bn of AstraZeneca's value. The same release reportedly showed a benefit in patients taking the drug alone and none in those also on a newer 'stabiliser' drug that barely existed when the trial was designed. That pattern is consistent with two very different stories, a shifting comparison group, or a genuinely weaker molecule, and the evidence does not yet cleanly pick between them.

The $73 Lottery Ticket: More Than Half of the TRUMP Coin's $3.81 Billion in Losses Were on the Books by Day 19
A Nansen analysis published July 4 counts 988,905 wallets down a combined $3.81 billion on the TRUMP memecoin, four days after the president's financial disclosure reported $636 million in coin-linked license income. The timing undercuts the claim that the 2026 crypto downturn did the damage: more than half of the losses were already recorded by day 19 of the token's life, and the documented Trump-linked take, up to roughly $960 million across two accounting systems, is about four times what the entire trading crowd netted on paper.
